What is G.hn?

Gigabit Home Networking (G.hn) is a wired home networking specification that was formed by the UN’s ITU-T standardization body and supports speeds of up to 2 Gbps. Not only does G.hn technology provide end users with ultra-fast and reliable network connectivity, but it can also be installed anywhere there is existing network wiring already installed. G.hn can be operated over physical connections like coaxial cables, telephone wires, power lines, and plastic optical fiber.

What is G.hn Access?

G.hn Access is based on the ITU-T Recommendations G.996x for G.hn, which is a technology for broadband data transmission over in-premises wiring. When used in a Fiber-To-The-extension-point architecture, it can deliver fiber-grade services to the customer premises over existing twisted-pair or coaxial cable.

What are the specifications for the G.hn solution?

G.hn Access Performance Test Plan

What cables can G.hn Access solution of FirstMile be used on?

1.   Coaxial Cable
2.   CAT3 or better cable, such as telephone line, network line (UTP)

How is the performance of G.hn Access solution?

1 Gbps on 2-Pair Copper to 250m / 800 feet
1 Gbps on 1-Pair Copper to 150m / 500 feet
1 Gbps on RG-6 Coaxial to 800m / 2600 feet
1 Gbps on RG-59 Coaxial to 300m / 1000 feet
The G.hn wave3 standard for 5Gbps and 10Gbps is currently under development

What spectrum does G.hn technology use?

G.hn Profile
Spectrum
Phone Line SISO
2-200MHz
Phone Line MIMO
2-100MHz
Coaxial
2-200MHz

What does SISO and MIMO mean?

In general, SISO (Single Input Single Output) refers to data transmission via one data channel, while MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) refers to transmission on several channels in parallel.
Coax cables usually consist of a conductive core and the shield, so G.hn always uses the SISO method and transmits the data in the frequency range 2-200 MHz.
Telephone cables often have several wire pairs, G.hn can use one pair (SISO, 2-200 MHz) or two pairs (MIMO, 2-100 MHz).

What is the difference between G.hn wave1 and G.hn wave2?

Currently, all First Mile G.hn access products use G.hn wave2 chipsets.
